About Us

Altus Rise Wines draws inspiration from, and sources  grapes from vineyards scattered amongst the sub region of Yallingup located in  the rugged hills on the West Australian coast. Meaning ‘place of caves’, Yallingup is located on a ridge at the northern tip of the Leeuwin-Naturaliste Peninsula, thirty kilometres north of Margaret River township. Here the moderating effects of Margaret River's maritime location are at their most pronounced.

The undulating landscapes  and coastline that surround it are distinct as they  create an oasis of plentiful growing conditions to nurture the vines, most notably, the Chardonnay, Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon.  Few major wine regions in the world have vineyards in such close proximity to the sea — Cassis in southern Provence and Hawkes Bay in New Zealand being notable exceptions.

Our vineyards are ideally located for growing premium grapes and strive as an estate to build its reputation for producing world-class wine. We see an average of 1200mm per year of rain during the year and our humidity is considered ideal for the grape varieties we cultivate along with a selection from nearby Yallingup on the ridge of Wildwood Valley.

Although well-worn, the phrase that ‘wine making begins in the vineyard’ remains intrinsic to the ethos the team at Altus Rise. Treasuring, nurturing and teasing the ultimate from our vineyards - whatever the vagaries of nature delivers - is our passion.

Our vineyards are blessed with an abundant water catchment to the foot of the property that flows towards Yallingup. The gentle slopes ushering rainwater when required, and the soils are diverse - dense in nutrition and highly permeable when moist. This rich soil with its natural drainage creates ideal growing conditions.

With our unique accompanying gentle Southern Ocean breezes and Mediterranean maritime climate, our vineyards produce exceptional fruit enabling us to craft our premium wine to consistently showcase finesse, elegance and refinement.
